Duplicate Your Risk Assessments in One Click
Duplicate Your Risk Assessments in One Click
Published March 26, 2026
Managing offshore dropped object risk assessments often involves building on previous work. Whether you are running a sensitivity analysis, exploring alternative scenarios, or preserving a baseline before making significant changes, the ability to duplicate a study quickly and completely is essential. Dropulyzer now makes this effortless with the new Study Copying feature.
Why Study Copying Matters
Risk analysts frequently need to work with variations of the same study. Before this feature, recreating a study meant manually re-entering objects, targets, crane configurations, fluid properties, weather data, and all the other parameters that define a comprehensive risk assessment. This was time-consuming and prone to error.
With Study Copying, you can create a complete, independent duplicate of any study with a single action. The copy includes every piece of data associated with the original, giving you a ready-to-use starting point for your next analysis.
How It Works
The process is designed to be straightforward and transparent:
- Locate your study in the study list and click the violet Copy button alongside the other study actions.
- A confirmation modal appears, clearly displaying the original study name and the name of the new copy, which follows the format [Original Name] (Copy).
- Click Copy Study to proceed. A loading indicator keeps you informed while the system works.
- Once complete, the application automatically selects the new study and displays a success confirmation. You are ready to start working immediately.
A Complete Copy, Every Time
When we say complete, we mean it. The copy operation duplicates everything that defines your study:
- Study configuration and metadata
- All objects, cranes, and lift definitions
- Targets, target groups, and associated geometries
- Fluid properties and release parameters
- Weather and current data
- Facility and map information
- All calculation results and statistics
- GeoJSON map layers, images, and associated files
Every internal relationship is carefully remapped so the copied study is entirely self-contained. Changes you make to the copy will never affect the original, and vice versa.
Built for Reliability
The copy operation is performed as an atomic transaction. This means that if anything unexpected happens during the process, none of the changes are applied. Your original study and data remain completely untouched. You will receive a clear message if the operation cannot be completed, and you can simply try again.
Practical Use Cases
This feature opens up several valuable workflows for risk analysts:
- Scenario comparison: Duplicate a study, modify key parameters such as drop heights or object weights, and compare results side by side.
- Baseline preservation: Create a copy before making major changes so you always have a clean reference point to return to.
- Template creation: Build a well-configured study once, then copy it as a starting point for similar future assessments.
- Training and review: Copy a production study into a safe duplicate where team members can explore and learn without risk.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
The copy feature is available for any unlocked study. If a study is currently locked, simply unlock it first to enable copying. Sharing permissions from the original study are not carried over to the new copy, which starts with standard access for the owner. This ensures you have full control over who can view or edit the duplicated study.
Conclusion
Study Copying is a practical addition to Dropulyzer that saves time and reduces the friction of working with multiple study variations. By making it easy to duplicate and iterate on risk assessments, analysts can focus on the analysis itself rather than the mechanics of data management. The feature is available now for all users in the latest version of the application.
