Our story
DORAS was built by PetroMarine Risk Consultants (PMRC) to solve a problem we kept hitting on real projects: existing dropped object analysis methods were too coarse, too manual, and too slow to give operators the answers they needed before a campaign started.
The traditional concentric-ring approach — encoded in spreadsheets passed between teams — averaged risk across 10-metre bands and made it almost impossible to aggregate drops from many sources. We rebuilt the calculation as a Monte Carlo simulation on a 1-metre grid, then made it accessible through a web interface so engineers could iterate quickly and review results visually.
PetroMarine Risk Consultants
PMRC is an independent offshore risk consultancy headquartered in Australia, working with operators across Australia, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East. Our practice covers:
- Dropped object risk analysis (the discipline behind DORAS)
- Quantitative risk assessment (QRA)
- Fire and explosion analysis (FEA)
- HAZID and HAZOP facilitation
- Subsea release and dispersion modelling
- SIMOPS assessments
Why DORAS exists
Software is only useful when it embeds the judgement of people who have done the work. DORAS is the product of years of dropped object studies, conversations with operators about what they actually need from a risk model, and steady refinement of the calculation engine against project data.
It is not a generic simulation toolkit; it is a domain-specific platform built around DNV-RP-F107 and the operational reality of offshore lift planning.
